The Full Story

I was heading home, and I was on the causeway, and it was a little past midnight, and I remember looking at the rearview mirror. There was nobody behind me. I didn't see anyone on the road. He came from nowhere.

He hit me in the back driver's side, and it turned me headfirst into the guardrail. I just went black, and I could feel the vehicle sliding. Then my next memory was, I came to, and I blinked, and blood dripped from my face into the center console.

And then I went out again, and I remember being on the side of the road, and someone was just patting me on the back, asking if I was okay. My next memory was just being in an ambulance.

When it first happened, I didn't know what to do. I don't even have a primary care to go to for the follow-up, and my wife was talking with our neighbor. My neighbor, Bob, knows Mark. He worked a case for him. I felt comfortable having his trust, and he personally utilized him and knew him personally. It was a great recommendation.

So physically, first of all, I've sustained a lot of injuries. Car was totaled. I broke my foot, five ribs, tears in my right shoulder. My jaw was dislocated on both sides. I had bleeding in the brain. The worst part of all is my back. So a herniated disc, ruptured disc, and multiple fractures in my spine. I deal with the pain of the back every day, unfortunately.

It still was very difficult mentally going through everything, and in particular, my dad lived with me. My mom had passed away, so my dad lived with me, and he had Alzheimer's, and we were his caregiver. I say we, my wife and I did 100% of everything for him. And he couldn't really talk anymore, and he still would see me and could tell I was in pain, and he would ask if I was all right. And picking him up and moving him and bathing him and doing all that was very difficult with the injuries in particular, and it made it tough mentally.

I don't know what I would have done without Roman Austin. They were a godsend. I don't know how these things work. I didn't know how insurance works. I've never dealt with insurance before. I never had a claim, no issues, so I had no idea how any of this works, and that's where these guys have been so great.

I never saw a bill. I didn't have any issues. They just completely took care of everything. They gave me the recommendations for the doctor, and he ran with the medical side, and these guys ran with the rest, and they kept me well informed. I'm a patient person. I wasn't looking, and I'm not looking, to get anything out of it. I was just focused on getting better and doing my best, and I did what I could to make my situation the best and not a worse place. And I probably wouldn't have gone down the right path without their guidance, so I'm pretty grateful for that.
